The Open Handbook respects intellectual property rights and expects our users and content partners to do the same. This policy outlines how we handle copyright and how to submit a valid DMCA takedown request.
1. Our Commitment to Copyright
All original content created by The Open Handbook — including articles, tools, graphics, and other materials — is protected by copyright. Reproduction, distribution, or use of our content without written permission is prohibited, except for brief quotations with attribution.
We also endeavour to ensure that all content we publish respects the intellectual property rights of third parties. If we have inadvertently used copyrighted material without appropriate authorisation or attribution, we take that seriously and will act promptly upon notification.
2. DMCA Takedown Procedure
If you believe that content on The Open Handbook infringes your copyright, please submit a written notification to our designated agent containing the following information:
- A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed
- A description of the material on our site that you claim is infringing, with sufficient detail to locate it (e.g. the URL)
- Your contact information: full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement that the information in your notification is accurate, and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on behalf of the copyright owner
- Your electronic or physical signature
Please send DMCA notices to: corrections@theopenhandbook.com with the subject line: DMCA TAKEDOWN REQUEST
We will review all valid notices and respond within a reasonable timeframe, generally within 5 to 10 business days.
3. Counter-Notification
If you believe that content was wrongly removed in response to a DMCA notice, you may submit a counter-notification to corrections@theopenhandbook.com with the subject line: DMCA COUNTER-NOTICE. Please include all required elements as set out under 17 U.S.C. Section 512(g).
4. Repeat Infringers
In accordance with applicable law, The Open Handbook maintains a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances, the access of users who are repeat infringers of intellectual property rights.
5. Our Own Copyright
All original text, graphics, tools, calculators, and other content produced by The Open Handbook is owned by The Open Handbook and protected under applicable copyright law. Brief quotation (up to 50 words) with clear attribution and a link to the source article is permitted. Any other use requires prior written consent.
